Govt to bring 1,200 PCs to flood-affected schools in Atlántico department

Colombia's government will distribute some 1,200 computers to schools throughout Atlántico department - one of the departments most affected by heavy rains and flooding at the end of last year - to replace PCs damaged by floods, local paper El Heraldo reported.

On the other hand, an agreement is set to be signed between the central ICT ministry, the departmental government and operator Metrotel for the development of wireless internet connectivity, the head of ICT for the Atlántico department, Alejandro Pérez, was quoted as saying.

At the end of last year and the beginning of 2011, more than 2.1mn people are thought to have been affected by heavy flooding in Colombia, with close to 3,000 houses destroyed, according to Oxfam.
