Argentina's tourism ministry has closed the local version of sales website Groupon for breaching the law in operating as a travel agency without proper permission, online discount site and Groupon rival LetsBonus said in a release, quoting the local travel association.

According to the market sources cited, Needish SRL - the legal name for Groupon - will have to pay 10,000 pesos (US$2,400) and close the facilities.

The measure is reportedly the result of a suit filed in March by the Argentine travel and tourist association (AAAVyT) against the website.
