ICE seeking efficiency through fleet digitalization

Bnamericas

Costa Rican state telco and electricity company ICE has installed satellite monitoring devices in 2,713, or 86.7% of its vehicles for real-time monitoring, improved efficiency and resource management.

The move falls under a 2014-2018 strategy to optimize internal processes and reduce operating costs, said administration and finance manager Francisco Garro in a company release.

Monitoring is done via GPS. Signals are stored and converted into data on a SIM card. Information is displayed and analyzed on a secure web platform.

The goal is to have 100% of the 3,126 vehicles with GPS installed by the end of 2016 and apply the same technology to motorcycles and other vehicles (construction machinery, cranes etc) in 2017.

Information ICE seeks includes distance traveled and time taken, speed, route, and the proximity and location of vehicles.
