Peru's software development market comprises more than 300 companies, of which 90% are micro and small companies, media outlet RPP Noticias reported, citing a study by state export and tourism agency Promperú.
According to the study, 63% are micro business, 27% are small firms, 6% are medium and 4% are large corporations.
The local software development segment creates 8,000 direct jobs and 12,000 indirect jobs, such as computer sales and cable and equipment installation.
Peru's IT offering includes generic software, computer consulting, on-demand development, specialized software, internet services, e-business, outsourcing services, systems integration, and equipment support and maintenance.
The country's main export markets are the US (53%), the Andean community (27%), Europe (14%), Mercosur (3%) and Central America (2%), representing close to US$20mn in revenues last year.
