Ecuadorian telecoms ministry Mintel has invested US$1.5mn to launch mobile digital classrooms, the ministry said on its website.
The initiative looks to bring technology to remote, rural and low-income places throughout the country, and is expected to benefit 45,000 citizens with basic IT tools.
The classrooms will offer training in e-mail access and management, search engines, social networks, and use of e-government services, among other tools.
In its first phase, the project will include two mobile units equipped with computers and internet access.
The units will start their journey in the country's coastal provinces: Guayas, El Oro, Los Ríos, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Esmeraldas, Manabí and Santa Elena.
