Uruguayan national tax department DGI has launched a platform for an electronic invoice system, which will be available in the next couple of weeks, local media reported.
The trial period will start with a group of enterprises from diverse verticals and enable the processing of more than 40mn operations, from a total of 565mn a year.
The system will be tested until year-end. By the beginning of 2012, it will gradually begin to include some 250 large tax-paying enterprises that account for half of DGI's processes.
The system will also allow for voluntary enrollment, regardless of company size, including SMEs. All companies in the country must be enrolled in the system by 2013.
The electronic invoices, dubbed CFE, will have the same legal validity as traditional invoices.
