Joint venture Positivo BGH expects to start producing tablets and desktops in Argentina's Tierra del Fuego province by year-end, local paper El Cronista reported.
Total investment to launch these new products will reach US$50mn, according to the report. The devices will be branded under the Positivo BGH label.
The JV is integrated by Brazil's largest PC manufacturer, Positivo Informática, and Argentine electronics company BGH.
The JV recently started production of notebooks, netbooks and motherboards in Tierra del Fuego. The factory has an initial production capacity of 30,000 motherboards and 60,000 PCs per month, Positivo previously said.
"We want to be among the three leading brands in the local market in the first year of operation," El Cronista quoted Positivo BGH CEO Norberto Maraschin as saying.
In the first quarter of the year, Positivo's overall PC volume was down 8.3% to 390,400 units. The number of desktops sold falling 27.3% to 206,900, while notebooks went up 30.2% to 183,500.
