Up until now, only Samsung had received approval to produce its tablet, the Galaxy Tab, in the country under the PPB regime.

The PPB provides different tax exemptions and fiscal benefits to companies interested in producing tablets in Brazil. To receive such benefits, however, the firms need to use a given percentage of national basic components to manufacture the tablets.

The government's main goals with the PPB regime are lowering tablet prices in the retail market and enhancing the national technology industry.
