Uruguay's Plan Ceibal IT for education program, which aims to provide laptops to all of the country's public school students and teachers, will accept proposals until August 8 for the latest purchase of educational material, according to information on the program's website.
The procurement tender is divided into three tranches, the largest being for an online educational management platform and hosting of the platform, for which a US$10,000 guarantee deposit is required. The other two tranches each require a US$5,000 deposit and are for digital educational resources - one for primary school education and the other for high school.
With the platform - to be implemented during the second half of the year - Ceibal is looking to facilitate the integrated management of classroom activities such as planning, teaching and follow-up, as well as non-curricular activities such as management, communication and exchanges. The educational resources must offer scalable hardware and software compatible with all laptops that have been distributed under Ceibal.
The One Laptop per Child (OLPC) initiative has distributed more than 400,000 XO laptops under Uruguay's Plan Ceibal.
