The Argentine unit of Samsung plans to manufacture PCs in Tierra del Fuego province, in addition to the mobile devices that the company already produces there, according to local media outlet Canal AR.
Samsung Argentina president Héctor Jung told industry minister Débora Giorgi of the company's plans to manufacture notebooks, netbooks and tablets in the southernmost province.
The company already manufactures in Tierra del Fuego 50% of Samsung brand mobile devices sold in Argentina.
This is the latest manufacturing project added under Argentina's initiative to promote electronic equipment production in the province, most recently enabling the production of modems and tablets. Companies looking to enjoy tax benefits by producing in Tierra del Fuego are expected to manufacture 6.9mn pieces of technological equipment this year alone.
While Samsung has already established operations in the province, the promotional scheme is open to all companies interested in manufacturing products in Tierra del Fuego, and not just those already located there. Giorgi had previously extended the deadline to June for proposals to manufacture electronic equipment in the province.
