Thursday, June 2, 2011

Investments last year in the Southern Cone in the face of economic recovery, including in the IT industry, led to 12% growth in the disk storage market during the fourth quarter, and 16% in the external storage market, according to a study by tech consultancy IDC.

According to IDC, the investments benefited the technology sector, especially in the data storage segment, strongly linked with projects in various sectors such as finance, government and telecommunications.

"In some Latin American countries, there are growth opportunities in the storage market. In Argentina, Colombia and Peru, for example, the scenario is good for the government and finance segments. In Chile, [there is a positive scenario] for trade and services, especially data centers, and Venezuela for the financial sector and telecommunications," said Alexander Vargas, senior market analyst at IDC.
