Three people suspected of leading a hacking group called Anonymous have been arrested in a coordinated operation by Spanish police in Barcelona, Valencia and Almería, according to several news agencies.
The group is suspected of being responsible for cyber attacks on Sony Playstation, two Spanish banks (BBVA and Bankia), Italian energy company Enel and national governments including Chile and Colombia.
Members of Anonymous are spread over several countries. They operate anonymously and are organized into independent "cells."
They have also been said to be closely linked to the political protests that have taken place in Madrid and other cities since May 15.
