Tech Data Brasil - the Brazilian unit of US computer wholesaler Tech Data - is reducing its operations in the country due to "changes in Brazil's tax policies," the company's Latin America VP Luis Oliveira said in a letter sent to customers and partners.
"Tech Data Brasil has decided to discontinue hardware sales outside of the state of São Paulo. Hardware sales to other regions of Brazil will be made available through Tech Data Miami's export operations," stated the executive.
Software sales from Tech Data Brasil, though, will not be impacted by the measures, stressed Oliveira.
"As a result of these changes, Tech Data Brasil will align resources and adjust our infrastructure," he said, hinting at the possibility of reducing personnel in the country or even shutting some offices.
The VP did not go into further detail regarding what change in tax policies led Tech Data to make the decision to downsize.
