Telefônica/Vivo to use CPqD's waste disposal solutions

Thursday, September 15, 2011

Brazilian telecom conglomerate Telefônica/Vivo will use waste disposal solutions designed by local IT and telecom R&D firm CPqD, the latter announced.

The contract between the two companies has already been signed, CPqD said, adding that the solution is part of its own waste management project and is aimed mainly at disposing electric and electronic devices. The agreement with Telefônica will cover waste generated at the telco's offices and distribution centers, including handsets and batteries, CPqD president Hélio Graciosa said.

The steps to implement the solution include a diagnosis of how the waste is currently being treated, carrying out studies regarding the legislation governing the subject, planning and training of proper personnel.
