Mexican telecoms incumbent Telmex (NYSE: TMX), in partnership with Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO), is investing US$300mn to offer telepresence services in Latin America targeted at the enterprise market, local press reported.
The funds will be allocated to deploy telepresence rooms and strengthen the company's broadband network ranging from 6-50 Mbps.
Telmex already has 60 public videoconferencing rooms, some of which will migrate to telepresence technology and will be available for booking via internet with an hourly and monthly rate.
The objective is to increase public telepresence rooms where companies of all sizes, and even end users, can use the high-definition video system in real time to communicate.
Through its partnership with Cisco, Telmex is also offering unified communications services aimed at midsize and large businesses, including IP telephony, messaging and voicemail integration with email.
