Brazilian software firm Totvs has opened a new development center in Porto Alegre, in Rio Grande do Sul state, news source Baguete reported.
The new center, the company's fourth in the country, is set up in tech park Tecnopuc, on 5.4 hectares on the campus of Pontifícia Universidade Católica-RS. The tech park brings together 66 organizations and 48 companies, including HP, Dell and Tlantic.
"This new unit puts Porto Alegre definitely on the Totvs development route," the company's business operations director in Porto Alegre, Nelson Pires, was quoted as saying.
Totvs' three others development centers are located in Joinville (Santa Catarina state), aimed at the tax, manufacturing and logistics segment; São Paulo, targeting international operations; and Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais state), focused on the education and construction verticals.
According to Pires, Tecnopuc's operations will concentrate on solutions based on Java and .net platforms, mostly targeting the banking and health segments.
The center will have some 300 professionals by year-end, including systems analysts, business analysts and developers. Totvs has some 2,700 personnel countrywide.
The company posted a 39mn-real (US$22.5mn) net profit in the third quarter, up 20.3% from the year-ago period. The results were a company best for Q3, according to Totvs. Net revenue rose 6.7% in the period, totaling 324mn reais.
