Nicaragua is looking to improve telecommunications and increase national coverage in urban and rural areas with the support of Chinese investments, media outlet Prensa Latina reported.
Nicaraguan telecoms regulator Telcor confirmed to local press that a Chinese delegation is set to visit the country to study investment possibilities.
The delegation will include Chinese telco DT-Mobile president Li Zhuyuan and representatives from China Mobile and China Exim Bank.
Both DT-Mobile and China Mobile are reportedly developing international expansion strategies that would include Nicaragua.
Although the countries had no official diplomatic relations when President Daniel Ortega took office in January 2007, bilateral relations have risen in economic and commercial matters, according to the report.
In related news, investment promotion agency ProNicaragua announced the launch of a digital platform to increase investments and facilitate trade in the country, Univisión reported.
The new portal, tramitesnicaragua.org, includes guidelines and useful information for investors looking to realize operations in the country.
