Uruguay takes pro-tempore helm of LatAm data transparency body
Uruguay has assumed the leadership of the Latin American transparency and access to public information network (RTA, by the Spanish acronym), a regional body responsible for promoting and exchanging experiences in the field of data transparency and access to public information.
RTA was originally founded in 2011 with Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Mexico and Uruguay as its founding members, before later being expanded to 16 countries, represented by organizations and institutions responsible for ensuring the right of access to public information.
The presidency of the body was handed over to Uruguay's public information access agency (UIAP), for the 2018-2021 period during the 15th RTA summit, held last week in Chilean capital, Santiago.
Mexico's national institute of transparency, access to information and protection of personal data (INAI) was appointed as executive secretary.
Authorities from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Mexico responsible for issues of transparency and access to information attended the conference.
International organizations such as the Organization of American States (AOS), regional cooperation program Eurosocial and Argentina's federal network of transparency and access to public information (RFAIP) also took part.
