A consortium formed by São Paulo state water utility Sabesp (Bovespa: SBSP3, NYSE: SBS) and consultancy firm Latin Consult has won an US$8.8mn, three-year contract to provide consultancy services to Panama's state-run water utility Idaan, Latin Consult director Tarcio Papa told BNamericas.
This is the first international tender won by Sabesp, although it was previously awarded a tender in partnership with Spain's OHL to provide sewage collection and treatment in São Paulo state's Mogi Mirim municipality.
"Latin Consult, on the other hand, now has 10 international contracts of this kind," Papa said.
The contract consists of helping Idaan implement a rational water use program and adopt a new commercial and operational management model, according to a Sabesp release.
"The agreement involves the central provinces of Panama and includes sewerage as well as water services," said Papa.
Sabesp and Latin Consult are currently finalizing the details of the proposal and work should begin in December, the release said.
"December is an estimated start date but we cannot say for sure yet as the details of the agreement have to be worked out," the executive said.
