Argentina to launch US$1bn dam tender

Argentine authorities are due to launch a tender in the first half of 2017 for a US$1bn, 122MW multi-purpose hydroelectric dam.

The Potrero del Clavillo project is envisioned for the border of northeastern provinces Catamarca and Tucumán, Argentina's interior, public works and housing ministry said in a statement.

In addition to generating electricity, the dam will provide water for drinking and irrigation.

The national government, along with the two provincial governments, created a commission tasked with developing the project and designing the tender.
