The mayor of Atalaya province in Peru's Ucayali region is seeking 20mn soles (US$7.22mn) to install a basic potable water and sewerage system in the districts of Sepahua and Tahuanía, daily La Primera reported.

While the region has strong private investments, particularly in the timber industry, Tahuanía municipality receives only 35 soles per month in royalties, mayor Francisco Mendoza was reported as saying.

Mendoza plans to meet with Peru's housing ministry this week to request the allocation of funds for the sanitation projects, the report said.
