Brief: Quito public sector shuts down amid water shortage

Ecuador's President Lenin Moreno decreed the shutdown of Quito's public sector on Thursday afternoon and Friday as a result of a water supply emergency in the city.

On Wednesday, a landslide caused a wall of El Pita canal to collapse and block the flow of water to Quito.

The private sector will determine on its own whether it operates or shuts down activities, Moreno said in a statement.
