Panama's cabinet council has approved a project which creates a public-private partnership (PPP) framework for infrastructure and services traditionally provided by the government.
Economy and finance (MEF) minister Alberto Vallarino submitted the proposal, according to a presidential release.
PPPs provides an another alternative for infrastructure and service provision and could be used for a large variety of projects including highways, ports and water treatment plants, Vallarino said.
The private sector provides management and technical innovations which will result in better quality and efficiency at lower costs, the minister added.
