Cesan earmarks US$96mn for rural sewerage works in 2011

Brazil's Espírito Santo state water company Cesan has earmarked 154mn reais (US$96.2mn) to improve sewerage services in rural areas of the southeastern state throughout 2011, a company spokesperson told BNamericas.

"The city of Nova Venécia is receiving the most investment, with 9mn reais," the spokesperson said, adding that work will be carried out in 14 municipalities altogether.

Around 5mn reais has been earmarked to install pipelines and a pumping station and another 4mn reais for phase II work on construction of a wastewater treatment plant.

The towns of Afonso Cláudio and Pinheiros are receiving the next largest investments with project budgets of 6.3mn reais and 3.5mn reais respectively.

Cesan provides sewerage service for 983,500 people and supplies potable water to 2.2mn people, serving 52 municipalities in total.
