Ecuador's President Rafael Correa has opened the first phase of a potable water treatment plant in canton Daule, in Guayas province.
The project cost US$16mn. State bank Banco del Estado provided a US$6mn loan, of which US$3.6mn will be covered by the national government, state newspaper El Ciudadano reported.
The plant, currently operating at 80% capacity, will eventually process 400l/s. The facility should be at full capacity by December, according to the report.
The potable water plant is slated to benefit 40,000 people in Daule, many of whom were previously supplied by a daily water truck.
