The government of Mexico's Durango state capital has allocated 246mn pesos (US$20.4mn) for local utility AMD to improve potable water and sewerage systems in 2011, daily El Sol de Durango reported.
Works should begin this year and include performing maintenance on and expanding networks to reach at least 15 communities in the municipality.
AMD will also build a wastewater treatment plant and two storage tanks in city Cristobal Colon.
Over half of the total funds will come from water rates, according to the paper.
