Ecuadorian capital Quito's basic services utility Emaap-Q is rolling out plans to build the city's first wastewater treatment plant, local daily La Hora reported.
The utility is currently working to launch project feasibility studies for the plant, which will use activated sludge treatment, according to Emaap-Q head Othón Zeballos.
Emaap-Q has narrowed down two possible locations for the facility: southern districts Quitumbe and El Beaterio.
Quito currently produces an estimated 6,500m3/s of wastewater, which is expected to increase to 7,500m3/s by 2040.
