Argentina's President Cristina Fernández won reelection Sunday, coming in with about 54-55% of the vote, according to exit polls, and beating her next closest competitor by some 40 points, national and international press reported.
The victory comes nearly one year after the October 27 death of her husband, Néstor Kirchner, who was Fernández's predecessor in the Casa Rosada presidential palace.
There were a total seven contenders for the presidential seat. Fernández's Frente para la Victoria coalition also hopes to win back seats in congress to regain the control it lost in 2009.
