Argentina's national and Chubut province governments plan to invest an initial 180mn pesos (US$41.8mn) in a project to irrigate 5,000ha in the province, according to the national government's agriculture, livestock and fisheries minister Norberto Yauhar.
"With this project, we will begin to expand our agriculture perimeter and new jobs will be secured, which will directly benefit the region," local daily El Patagónico quoted Yauhar as saying.
The project will soon be sent to the provincial legislature for approval, the report said.
The plan falls under the national government's Agroalimentario plan to boost agricultural production by 2020.
