Peru's economy and finance ministry (MEF) has authorized the transfer of 370mn soles (US$135mn) for water and sanitation projects under the government's Agua para Todos (water for all) program.
Of the total, 352mn soles will be used to finance ongoing projects, while 18.5mn soles will go towards strengthening water utilities, state news agency Andina reported.
The utilities and regional and local governments will now begin the process of selecting the projects they will carry out, wrapping up this procedure in the next 10 days.
Launched in 2006 by President Alan García, Agua para Todos aims to reach universal potable water and sewerage service coverage in Lima and Callao.
