Bolivia's national water and environment ministry MMAyA has completed preinvestment studies for the San Miguel reservoir in Oruro department.
The US$2.5mn reservoir will serve the department's Huayllamarca municipality and have capacity to store up to 190,000m3 of water from the Iru Pampa river, according to a release from MMAyA.
The water will be used for irrigation, benefiting some 350 households, and work is due to take 18 months to complete.
The department will now work on securing financing for the initiative, said the department's secretary general Florencio Choque Lapaca.
