Bolivia's environment and water ministry (MMAyA) has authorized feasibility studies to be carried out for a multipurpose dam project in El Alto city, La Paz department.
The consultancy requires some 2.1mn bolivianos (US$300,000) and will launch the first week of August, continuing through end-November, MMAyA said in a release.
The studies will determine where the dam will be built, its storage capacity and its electricity generating potential.
The US$62mn Las Peñas dam will supply water to El Alto, capital La Paz and surrounding neighborhoods using water collected from the Huayna Potosí, Condoriri and other snowcapped mountains.
The project is slated to provide 800l/s of water for drinking and irrigation.
