The cost of cleaning, restoring and repairing potable water pipelines and sewerage systems in flood-hit Colombia could total more than 670bn pesos (US$359mn), according to the environment, development and housing ministry.
Funding to the amount of 51.8bn pesos is available from the ministry's departmental water plans to address the immediate situation, according to a ministry release.
Authorities have set up a program for immediate attention to severely damaged water systems and has outlined short, medium and long-term plans to repair affected potable water systems.
At least 156 municipalities within 21 departments have reported damage to potable water and sewerage infrastructure due to heavy rains and mudslides caused by an unusually harsh winter.
