Chile's northern region II governor Álvaro Fernández has signed a resolution authorizing potable water and sanitation works in coastal towns El Huáscar and Coloso.
The project will require an investment of 1.99bn pesos (US$4.14mn) and will be financed by national regional development fund FNDR, paper El Mercurio de Antofagasta reported.
The housing and urbanization service Serviu will be responsible for construction of a potable water distribution and sewerage network.
Antofagasta sanitation services concessionaire Econssa will build a wastewater treatment plant in Coloso as part of the project.
Work will be carried out during this year and part of 2012, the paper said.
