Santander to invest nearly US$11mn in potable water pipelines

Colombia's Santander department has earmarked some US$20bn pesos (US$10.4mn) to finance the construction of potable water pipelines in 10 municipalities.

The funds were originally intended to fund construction of a potable water pipeline in Socorro municipality; however, the national government failed to complete studies for the pipeline, local daily Vanguardia reported.

The departmental government also plans to spend 500mn pesos to repair and update the city's entire water distribution network.

The new project was developed by outgoing mayor Humberto Chinchilla, whose term finishes at the of this year.
