Argentine multiservice providers Telecom and Cablevisión obtained definitive authorization for their merger in June this year, having first announced the plan in July 2017.

The merger capitalizes on the January 2017 Convergence Law, which allows telcos to bundle pay TV services with voice and internet, and conveniently positions Telecom-Cablevisión as the only group with adequate infrastructure for adding mobile into this mix, so that its bundles are in effect quadruple play.

Rival operators and small service providers have been quick to question the fairness of this development, considering that the group has very strong market shares in most of these services.
