With one notable exception, Latin America has left hyperinflation safely in the past, with the region having learned the hard lessons in the 1980s and 90s. (Venezuela, with a 12-month inflation rate nearing 14,000%, will remain a basket case until a new government comes in.)

On the inflation front, things have improved so much that Capital Economics asked on Friday why Brazil's inflation has remained so low.
