Description

The offshore Perla field is located in the Cardón IV block at a depth of 60m. It is operated by Cardón IV, a company created by Eni and Repsol in 2009 for this purpose. Each company holds a 50% working interest. The block is part of the Rafael Urdaneta project, established to explore the Gulf of Venezuela. The first appraisal well, Perla-1X, was drilled in 2009, while the Perla-2X and Perla 3X wells were drilled in 2010; Perla-4X was drilled in 2011. All of these wells showed positive results. Initial Perla gas production is forecast at around 300Mf3/d, with eventual expansion to 1.2Bf3/d. Perla currently holds 17Tcf of gas in place, which corresponds to 3.1Bboe with additional potential. The best wells are estimated to produce over 150Mcf/d each. The development of Perla has been planned in three phases: Phase 1 has a production plateau of about 450Mcf/d, up from the 300Mcf/d initially planned, Phase 2 has a plateau of 800Mcf/d from 2017 and Phase 3 has a plateau of 1,200Mscfd from 2020. Cardón IV signed a gas sales agreement with PDVSA for all three phases, until 2036. The gas will be mainly used by PDVSA for the domestic market.
