Description

The Espírito Santo basin is 129,429km2 out of which 117,012 km² is offshore and 12,417 km² is onshore. It extends from Cumuruxatiba basin on the north down to Alto de Vitória, in the Santos basin. This a mature onshore basin with oil discoveries ranging from 12 to 27o degrees API. The offshore portion of the basin of high potential with light oil (27o API) expectancy. Exploratory history in this basin dates back to the 50s through gravimetric and seismic surveys. In 1969 Sao Mateus field the first commercial oil accumulation in the area was discovered. From 1972 to 1979 a second exploration cycle unveiled Fazenda Cedro, Cação and Lagoa Parda field. Other 3 cycles have been carried out through the decades, both onshore and offshre. In 2000, the Fazenda São Rafael field was discovered, followed by 2003's Inhambu and Jacutinga (onshore), and 2007 discoveries Golfinho and Camarupin offshore oil fields. The deepwater fields discovered in the early 2000s, account for the majority of proved reserves in the basin. The deepwater region is highly influenced by the movement in the salt layers and Espirito Santo is the 5th largest producing basin of oil and gas in Brazil, with 40 producing fields. In April 2015 the Basin reported a production of 27.654 b/d and 3.045 m3/d. 6,190km 2D and 552km 3D seismic have been done in the area and several blocks have been offered in bidding rounds. Sectors SES-AP1 and SES-AP2 will be offered in the upcoming Brazilian 13th bidding round.
