Description

The Açu port project comprises an offshore terminal (terminal 1, or T1) and an onshore terminal (terminal 2, or T2) covering 90km2, located 80km to the north of Rio de Janeiro and near the Campos basin oil production zone. The port has 17km of pier to accommodate up to 47 vessels. T1 is a 3km-long terminal with nine piers. It is capable of handling Capesize ships with capacity of 220,000t, and Very Large Crude Carriers with capacity of 320,000t. Four piers are capable of handling 100Mt/y of iron ore and the other five can handle 1.2Mb/d of oil. T2 is a 6.5km-long, 300m-wide terminal, with 13km of pier and maximum depth of 14.5m.
