The project is part of Honduras' policy to develop clean energy to foster economic growth and tourism in the area. The project would satisfy 25-30% of projected electric power demand in the country, and could eventually lead to a surplus and the opportunity to sell to other countries. Los Llanitos, will have 80 MW of installed capacity and an annual average generation of 370 GWH.The approximate area of the reservoir is 20 km² and its volume is approximately 731 MMC. Jicatuyo, with 210 MW of installed capacity and an average annual generation of 880 GWh, develops its water mirror at 220 meters above sea level and is composed of a cast iron curtain whose operational fall will be 86.20 m high.The approximate area of the reservoir is 65 km² and its volume is approximately 2,254 MMC. The hydro project is located in Honduras’ Santa Bárbara department, downstream from the confluence of the Ulúa and Jicatuyo rivers.
