Project Details

Description

The project seeks to expand by 150,000t/d (annual average) the ore processing capacity at Andina division, reaching a maximum of 180,000t/d. As a result, processing capacity will increase from 92,000t to 244,000t/d, being able to reach up to 272,000t/d. Thus, Andina's average annual copper production will increase by about 400,000t to 600,000t/y. The project covers a total area close to 3,280ha. The construction phase is scheduled to last six years, the operation phase will last 65, and closure, two to three years. Andina 244 is the only structural project that adds new production for Codelco, as the rest of the projects – including the underground transformation of Chuquicamata, the new mine level at El Teniente and the RT Sulfuros expansion of Radomiro Tomic – involve replacing depleting deposits.
