The Atotonilco wastewater treatment plant is expected to treat 60% of Mexico City's wastewater, which will later be used for irrigation purposes. The project will benefit 700,000 people living in the Mezquital valley, of which 300,000 live in irrigation zones. More than 8,880 direct and indirect jobs will be created. In 2010 the contract for the construction, operation and maintenance was awarded to consortium Aguas Tratadas del Valle de México, formed by Promotora del Desarrollo de América Latina, S.A. de C.V (Ideal), Atlatec S.A de C.V., Acciona Agua S.A, Controladora de Operaciones de Infraestructura S.A. de C.V. (Conoisa), Desarrollo y Construcciones Urbanas S.A. de C.V. (Dycusa) and Green Gas Pioneer Crossing Energy.
