Description

The project considers the use of the waters of the Arenal reservoir to drive them to a storage and regulation reservoir in the Piedras river, and then channel them to the right bank of the Tempisque River for use in agricultural irrigation, irrigation of tourist areas and drinking water. In addition, the possibility of generating electricity at the reservoir site will be assessed. This project will promote socioeconomic development in the region, increasing water availability on the right bank of the Tempisque River as a measure of adaptation to climate change and variability, within a framework of sustainability, equity and efficient use of water resources. This is done by building infrastructure works to improve the use of water from the Arenal-Dengo-Sandillal hydroelectric system. PAACUME is part of the Comprehensive Water Supply Program for Guanacaste (PIAAG).
