Remittances sent home by Bolivians living abroad totaled US$668mn from January-August this year, down 7.3% from the same period last year, according to the central bank (BCB).
In August alone, remittances totaled US$88.3mn, down 6.3% compared to August 2008.
Flows of remittances have been stabilizing since March, and have once again surpassed levels seen in 2007, the central bank said.
The effects of the global crisis on remittances to Bolivia have been modest compared to those seen in other Latin American countries, such as Mexico's 12.9% drop and Colombia's 14.8% drop in the first eight months of the year, BCB said.
In full-year 2008, remittances to Bolivia rose 8% to US$1.10bn.
