"The Pecém terminal in Ceará state will be concluded in June," she said in Rio de Janeiro. "We may see it working in August because we are depending on the availability of LNG supplies. It also depends on our need to import LNG."
Water levels at hydroelectric plants will help determine when to start LNG imports as the gas will be needed to fire thermo plants if the weather is dry.
"LNG loads to Baía de Guanabara [in Rio] will arrive in 2009. We will be monitoring the scenario to assess when there will be a real need to make this LNG available to the market," das Graças Foster said.
The two terminals have combined capacity of 21Mm3/d.
Petrobras has not made a decision on a third regasification terminal.
"We do not have a decision on the plant construction or its location yet," she said.
Petrobras said last year it was studying various locations for the third LNG terminal. The plant would have some 10Mm3/d capacity, according to preliminary plans.
