The deputy governor of Argentina's Neuquén province, Federico Brollo, started operations Monday (31 May) of the first stage of a rural electrification project in the community of Covunco Abajo, Neuquén said in a statement.

The province's energy department, Ente Provincial de Energía (Epen), has invested 715,000 pesos (US$243,000) in the project.

The project will benefit 64 families and involves extending a medium-voltage line to the Arroyo Covunco valley and installing a low-voltage line. The company Napal y Muñoz carried out the work in 210 days.

Epen originally installed 8km of lines and substations in Covunco Abajo and completed the first stage of the project with an additional 85km of lines and 20 substations.

The second stage of the project will involve 20 new residential connections through a 5km line, Epen president Nicolás Salvatori said at the operations launch.
