Government/Regulations | Thermo/combined cycle generation | Generation - Hydro | Renewable generationDevelopment of alternative energies in Bolivia is hampered by natural gas subsidies, according to the hydrocarbons and energy ministry's alternative energies policy.
Subsidies result in a price of US$1.3/1,000f3 (28.3m3) for thermoelectric generation that distorts competitiveness to introduce alternative energies as the average export price to Brazil is US$6.7/1,000f3 and over US$10/1,000f3 to Argentina, highlights the ministry.
The use of subsidized diesel for power production in isolated areas also produces economic and environmental problems.
Other challenges include lack of specific regulations and standards; social, bureaucratic and administrative hurdles in project promotion; and insufficient R&D and information dissemination initiatives.
The ministry also points to bureaucratic internal and external processes to access financing.
