Brazil's second largest tollroad operator CCR will participate in the bidding process for the concessions of Carvalho Pinto and Ayrton Senna highways in São Paulo state, company investor relations manager Arthur Piotto Filho told BNamericas.

"The perspectives for CCR have never been as promising as now. We are looking at a huge number of projects, such as the highways in São Paulo that should be called to tender in the third quarter," said Piotto Filho. "We are also expecting to take part in the bidding for federal highways. The year 2009 also looks very promising."

The investor relations manager added that the coming months promise intense activity, and not only because of new investments. The company expects traffic to increase 1.5 times the Brazilian GDP (2.10bn reais or US$1.20bn), which represents a 6.5% rise over current volume. "We are reaching unprecedented levels of traffic on some highways and we do not see anything that could change this scenario," said Piotto Filho.

CCR expects to sign in June the concession contract for the west stretch of São Paulo city's beltway, known as Rodoanel Mário Covas. The Integração Oeste Consortium, 95% owned by CCR and 5% by Brazilian construction company Encalso Construções, won the bid in March.

ACQUISITIONS

CCR is also looking to acquire new companies this year, according to Piotto Filho.

Last January the company announced the purchased of 40% of Renovias, also a highway concessionaire, for 265mn reais.

"Consolidation in this sector is here to stay. Small companies, which have few operations, will have little room to grow in São Paulo, since the requirements for the next concessions in the state follow the bidding rules for Rodoanel and are very restricted," Filho said.
