Brazil's national transport infrastructure department (DNIT) has kicked off a 147mn-real (US$83.6mn) project to widen federal highway BR-386 in Rio Grande do Sul state, a DNIT spokesperson told BNamericas.
Work is being carried out by consortium Conpasul-Cotrel-Iccila-Momento, the spokesperson said, adding that a service order has now been signed.
The initiative entails widening an almost 34km stretch between the municipalities of Estrela and Tabai. Work is scheduled for completion by August 2013.
BR-386 spans 445km in total. It connects the municipalities of Canoas and Irai in the northeast of Rio Grande do Sul, near the border with Santa Catarina state.
